A couple of weeks ago I came across adorable little ceramic animals that lap up water to feed the plant on their backs. These are called Peropon and come in various shapes and sizes. I couldn’t resist them, picked a favorite and ordered it. I chose the dog – I like how the eyes looks. He looks so cute with his tongue sticking out!
The Peropon is a DIY kit – the package comes with a ceramic animal, tongue, pot, seeds, patch of soil and a small platter. When you’ve opened it all up, you soak the patch of soil in some water so it can grow a bit bigger (it needs to expand). Once that is done, you put it in the pot on the animal’s back and put the seeds on it. Fill the platter with some water and make sure the tongue touches the water.
The Peropon will start drinking the water by itself! The tongue is designed to absorb the water, which will reach the flower pot that is positioned on it. The flower pot has a hole in it so that the water reaches the soil.
After a few weeks, your plant should start growing. So far, my Peropon is showing a short stem, which is pointed at the window. It likes the sun!
