App Review: Neko Atsume

By now, it’s quite unlikely that you haven’t heard yet of the mobile app game Neko Atsume – the Japanese cat collector game (‘Kitty Collector’ in English). This was originally released in Japanese, but an English language option has been added on October 30 2015. Published by Hit-Point, this game is very addictive and free to play.

The objective of the game is to collect as many cats as you can. When you start out, you are provided a small backyard area where you can put goodies and food to lure the cats from the neighbourhood. You can expand your area later.
Neko Atsume currently features over 40 different cats, including rare ones. You’ll need the right items to get the right cat to visit your backyard in Neko Atsume!

You’ll attract cats to your backyard by purchasing food and other items. When you’ve set up your backyard, you can simply exit the game and come back later. Cats may have claimed an item to sit in or play with. You can take a picture of the cats that visit your backyard and save those pictures in an album.

As a ‘thank you’, a cat will leave some sardines when it leaves. You can find these rewards by tapping on the message “Gifts Await” on the bottom right of the screen.
You may also receive mementos from cats.

No guilt

A virtual pet game without guilt: in Neko Atsume, the objective is to ‘collect’ as many cats as possibly by luring them into your garden. By leaving out food and toys, chances are, a cat will come by. Take pictures of it and keep an album with all the cats that have visited your garden.
These cats are not yours, don’t feel guilty if you forget to leave food out one night; they’ll be fine! You can bet they found a different garden to visit with excellent toys to play with. 🙂

Final Verdict:

I love Neko Atsume, without a doubt. The art style appeals to me very much and the gameplay is stress-free and entertaining.
Opening up the game and seeing a couple of cats enjoy the things you put out gives a satisfied feeling and the cats with glowing eyes are my favorites.
As for a rating for Neko Atsume, I would go with a 4 out of 5.
